About Robert Saunders
I graduated from RISD, attending the European Honors Program in Rome on my senior year abroad, then lived in Italy for six more years, earning my MFA in Printmaking from Rosary College in Florence. When I returned to the States I opened a studio in Boston. Over the years I received recognition from the Society of Illustrators, The Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, Communication Arts, Print's Regional Design Annual, The Art Directors Club, and Advertising Club of Boston. I taught illustration at Massachusetts College of Art, and served on the board of the Graphic Artists Guild. I'm a former member of the Society of Illustrators and Illustrators' Partnership.

Being a lifelong musician, guitarist, and jazz afficianado I've played many styles and venues. One of the most rewarding projects was playing in the all-illustrators R&B band, The Half-Tones, co-founded with Joe Ciardiello, which performed for two ICONs, going on to play for sketch nights at the Society of Illustrators in New York. My last local band affiliation was with the Boston-based Gypsy jazz ensemble, Sinti Rhythm, which produced one recording, an EP titled "Hot Jazz & Gypsy Swing". A movement disorder has forced me to quit playing guitar, but I'm exploring new modes of creating music. There's always something else out there...the urge to create springs eternal.
